Planning Around Ingredient Lead Times

Lead time quoted to port and lead time to your factory are two different numbers. Build your plan from the second, and keep the freight leg explicit in the schedule.

Materials held in ready stock ship as soon as the order is confirmed. Items sourced to order add a production or procurement window before consolidation can even start.

Add a documentation window. Where your QA needs to review a COA before release, that review time belongs in the plan rather than being discovered at the warehouse door.

For repeat programmes, a rolling forecast lets a supplier hold stock against your demand instead of reacting to each purchase order — which is what actually shortens lead time over a year.

Ask which tier the specific product sits in before you commit a launch date. That single question prevents most schedule failures.
