The entire commercial risk on this product is chirality. L-aspartic acid is a bulk commodity sold at a fraction of the price of the D form, the two are chemically identical to any non-chiral assay, and they share the same molecular formula and molecular weight. A COA showing 'assay 99% aspartic acid' is not evidence you received D-aspartic acid. Insist on a chiral method with a stated L-isomer limit.
Optical rotation is the cheap sanity check: the two enantiomers rotate light in opposite directions. If the COA carries a rotation with the correct sign and magnitude, that is at least a first-pass confirmation before a full chiral chromatographic method.
Aspartic acid is a dicarboxylic amino acid — two carboxyl groups and one amine — so it is distinctly acidic in solution and will pull an unbuffered blend's pH downward. It behaves in a formula more like a food acid than like a neutral amino acid.
Free aspartic acid is only sparingly water-soluble, which is why it usually appears in capsules or unflavoured scoops rather than in clear beverages, and why the sodium salt exists for liquid applications.
The published human evidence on D-aspartic acid supplementation is genuinely mixed and includes null and negative results in resistance-trained men at both 3 g and 6 g per day. Marketing copy on a finished product should be written by someone who has read those papers — see the literature section.
