04Formulation & handling notes

Formulation & handling notes

The practical points our technical team raises with buyers of this material — the things that decide whether a batch behaves in your process.

01

Agmatine is decarboxylated arginine — chemically it is what you get when arginine loses its carboxyl group — and that has a direct analytical consequence: residual arginine is the process-related impurity to specify, and an amino-acid method tuned for arginine may not resolve agmatine cleanly. Ask for an agmatine-specific HPLC method.

02

The 57% agmatine figure is stoichiometrically exact, not a marketing number: agmatine free base is 130.19 in a 228.27 g/mol sulfate salt, which is 57.03%. A '1000 mg agmatine sulfate' serving delivers 570 mg of agmatine. Label the salt or the base, but never let the two be confused.

03

It is a guanidinium salt with a strongly basic guanidine group, so the sulfate salt is what makes it a handleable solid at all — and the sulfate load (43% of the mass) has to be counted in a formula's total sulfate and mineral budget.

04

The taste is the practical formulation obstacle: guanidinium compounds are characteristically bitter and unpleasant, which is why agmatine appears in capsules far more often than in flavoured powders. Bench-test the flavour system before committing to a stick pack.

05

This is the one product in the Zhicheng Bio range where the regulatory question is more important than the technical one. It has no pharmacopoeial monograph, no GRAS notice, no place in 21 CFR 172.320 and no identified EU novel-food authorisation. Sell it on documentation and honesty about status, never on implied compliance.

Regulatory status by market

Status of the raw material, stated as conservatively as our sources allow. This is supply-chain information, not regulatory advice — confirm the position for your finished product and destination market with your own regulatory counsel.

MarketStatusBasis
United StatesAgmatine is not among the amino acids listed in 21 CFR 172.320 and no GRAS notice for agmatine was identified. Its status as a lawful dietary ingredient in the US has been the subject of industry debate (the question being whether it qualifies as a dietary ingredient at all, and if so whether a New Dietary Ingredient notification is required).21 CFR 172.320; DSHEA / New Dietary Ingredient framework

09Procurement FAQ

Procurement FAQ

01How much agmatine is in agmatine sulfate?
57.0%, exactly — agmatine free base is 130.19 g/mol in a 228.27 g/mol sulfate salt. So 1000 mg of agmatine sulfate is 570 mg of agmatine. Decide which one your label declares and state it in the RFQ; this is the most common source of error on this ingredient.
02What is the regulatory status of agmatine in my market?
This is the honest answer: we cannot tell you, and you should not accept a supplier who says they can. Agmatine is not listed in FDA's amino-acid regulation, has no GRAS notice, and we found no EU novel-food authorisation. Its US dietary-ingredient status has been debated in the industry. Take it to your own regulatory counsel before you formulate. We will supply full manufacturer documentation to support whatever assessment they make.
03Which impurities matter on agmatine sulfate?
Residual arginine above all — agmatine is made by decarboxylating arginine — plus guanidine-type related substances and the sulfate assay itself. There is no monograph for this material, so the manufacturer's own method and limits are all there is. We will get them in writing.
04Will it work in a flavoured powder?
Test it first. Guanidinium salts are characteristically bitter, which is why agmatine usually ends up in capsules. Ask us for a sample and taste it in your actual flavour system before you commit to a stick-pack format.
05What is the MOQ for Agmatine Sulfate 99%?
MOQ is quote-based and flexible. Tell us your target quantity in the RFQ — for core in-stock SKUs we can usually accommodate both trial orders and multi-tonne volumes.
06Can I get a sample of Agmatine Sulfate 99% before ordering?
Yes — samples are available on request for evaluation and lab verification. Mention it in your RFQ and we will confirm the arrangement.
