A dash means we have no fixed limit to publish for that parameter: it is reported on the batch COA and the limit is agreed with your QA. We would rather leave it blank than invent a number. Full physical, chemical, heavy-metal and microbiological parameters are listed in the Specification Sheet — sent with every quotation.
Formulation & handling notes
The practical points our technical team raises with buyers of this material — the things that decide whether a batch behaves in your process.
The commercial logic of this ingredient is that one salt carries two actives down two different pathways: arginine feeds the nitric oxide synthase route and nitrate feeds the nitrate-nitrite-NO reduction route. That is why the 73%/27% split is the number formulators quote rather than the total salt weight.
Both numbers check out stoichiometrically, which is a useful sanity test on any offer: L-arginine 174.20 in a 237.21 g/mol mononitrate is 73.4%, and nitrate 62.00 is 26.1%. An offer whose stated split is far from 73/27 is either a different stoichiometry or wrong.
Nitrite is the specification row that matters most, and it is not on a standard amino-acid COA. Nitrite is a nitrosamine precursor and a toxicological endpoint of its own, so a nitrate salt needs a nitrite limit — insist on one before you formulate, not after.
Nitrate salts can be classified as oxidising solids for transport, which is a completely different shipping conversation from an amino acid. Confirm the UN classification, packing group and air-freight status from the manufacturer's MSDS before you quote a freight mode. This is the one SKU in the range where the logistics answer is not 'ships like a food powder'.
In a formulation containing secondary amines and a low pH, nitrate and especially nitrite raise a nitrosation question. It is a formulation-safety review item, not a reason to avoid the ingredient, but it should be on the record.
Nitrate contributes to a finished product's oral nitrate load, which is relevant if your customer's market regulates nitrate in food or if athletes in your customer base are subject to sport-specific monitoring. Give them the nitrate assay so they can do the arithmetic.

Regulatory status by market
Status of the raw material, stated as conservatively as our sources allow. This is supply-chain information, not regulatory advice — confirm the position for your finished product and destination market with your own regulatory counsel.
| Market | Status | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Arginine nitrate is not among the amino acids listed in 21 CFR 172.320 — that regulation covers amino acids 'in the free, hydrated, or anhydrous form, or as the hydrochloride, sodium, or potassium salts', and the nitrate salt is not one of them. No GRAS notice for arginine nitrate was identified. US supplement marketing rests on DSHEA and possibly on a New Dietary Ingredient notification. | 21 CFR 172.320(a) (salt forms covered); DSHEA / NDI framework |
| European Union | Arginine nitrate is likely to require novel-food authorisation for food or supplement use in the EU; none was identified. | Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 (novel foods) |
| China | Status as a nutrient fortification substance / food additive under Chinese national standards to be confirmed. | GB 14880-2012 (nutrient fortification substances), GB 2760 (food additives), and NHC new-food-ingredient announcements |
| Japan | No JP XVIII Official Monograph for this substance was located. | JP XVIII |
